One popular option Astorino Eye Center provides is the EVO Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) for the treatment of moderate to high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness) as well as astigmatism with the Visian ICL Toric.

Easy 20–30 Minute Procedure - A quick, painless same-day surgery to help you achieve better vision.

This lens, constructed from Collamer, an advanced biocompatible material, is extremely thin, soft, and flexible. It is surgically implanted behind the iris and in front of the natural lens in the eye. The EVO Visian ICL, with its microscopic thinness, can be easily inserted through a small incision that does not require stitches.

Functioning as an internal contact lens, it offers immediate and permanent vision correction. It is particularly suitable for individuals with moderate to severe myopia or nearsightedness, presenting a remarkable alternative to LASIK. In fact, it often produces superior visual outcomes compared to traditional glasses or contact lenses.

The lens requires no maintenance and is designed to remain in place as long as you are content with your vision. If your vision changes at any point or you decide to have the lens removed, it can be done easily without compromising your visual acuity.

Advantages of the VISIAN ICL

If you fall between the ages of 21 and 50 and have moderate to severe nearsightedness with or without astigmatism, you might be an ideal candidate for the remarkable benefits offered by the EVO Visian ICL procedure. Here are some advantages to consider:

  1. High Patient Satisfaction: Clinical studies conducted by the FDA revealed a remarkable 99% patient satisfaction rate with the Visian ICL over a three-year period post-procedure.

  2. Immediate Vision Improvement: Experience immediate vision enhancement across all distances, eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

  3. Sharper, Clearer Vision: Enjoy a new level of vision correction that is characterized by sharper, clearer, more vivid images with enhanced depth and dimension.

  4. Permanent, Yet Removable: The Visian ICL offers permanent vision correction. However, if necessary, the lens can be easily removed and replaced.

  5. No Dry Eye Issues: Unlike some other vision correction methods, the EVO Visian ICL does not cause or contribute to dry eyes. If you have dry eyes, consult your doctor to determine if the Visian ICL is the best option for you.

  6. Short Recovery Time: Due to the small size of the required incision, the recovery period for the EVO Visian ICL is typically quick, pain-free, and can be as short as one day. Patients often experience minimal discomfort and can often resume work the following day.

  7. UV Protection: The advanced lens material of the EVO Visian ICL includes a built-in UV blocker, protecting your eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays that can cause damage and potentially increase the risk of cataract development.

  8. Future Flexibility: As your vision naturally changes over time, and if you eventually require cataract surgery, the Visian ICL allows for flexibility. The lens can be removed and replaced if your vision changes significantly or if you opt for another procedure.

  9. Simplified Lifestyle: Eliminate the daily maintenance associated with traditional contact lenses and enjoy freedom from concerns related to activities such as swimming and sports.

  10. Suitable for Non-LASIK Candidates: Even if your corneas are too thin or your prescriptions are too high for LASIK, you can still achieve a glasses-free life through the EVO Visian ICL procedure.

What's the procedure?

Pre-Op Eye Exam: Before you schedule your EVO ICL lens (EVO) procedure your doctor will perform a series of standard tests to measure your eye’s unique characteristics for the procedure. Once your doctor determines that EVO ICL is a good option for you, they will educate you about the procedure and what to expect both during and after the procedure.

Getting Your EVO ICLs: When you arrive for your procedure your doctor will administer eye drops to dilate your pupils as well as anesthetize your eyes.

Small Opening: To prepare for the implant your doctor will create one small opening at the base of your cornea to insert the EVO ICL lens. The procedure is painless because of the numbing medication.

Lens Insertion & Positioning: The EVO ICL lens then can be folded and inserted through the small incision your doctor has made. Once the lens is inserted the doctor will make any necessary adjustments to ensure proper positioning in the eye.

Returning Home: At this point, the procedure is over and many patients will have improved vision nearly immediately. Your doctor will prescribe more eye drops intended to aid in the healing process following the procedure. You will need someone to drive you home, your doctor will tell you when your vision allows driving

The EVO Visian ICL Lens is intended for the correction of moderate to high nearsightedness. EVO Visian ICL and EVO Visian TICL surgery is intended to safely and effectively correct nearsightedness between -3.0 D to -15.0 D, the reduction in nearsightedness up to -20.0 D and treatment of astigmatism from 1.0 D to 4.0 D. If you have nearsightedness within these ranges, EVO Visian ICL surgery may improve your distance vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses. Because the EVO Visian ICL corrects for distance vision, it does not eliminate the need for reading glasses, you may require them at some point, even if you have never worn them before.
Implantation of the EVO Visian ICL is a surgical procedure, and as such, carries potentially serious risks. Please discuss the risks with your eye care professional. Complications, although rare, may include need for additional surgical procedures, inflammation, loss of cells from the back surface of the cornea, increase in eye pressure, and cataracts.
You should NOT have EVO Visian ICL surgery if:
  • Your doctor determines that the shape of your eye is not an appropriate fit for the EVO Visian ICL
  • You are pregnant or nursing
  • You have moderate to severe damage to the optic nerve caused by increased pressure (glaucoma)
  • You do not meet the minimum endothelial cell density for your age at the time of implantation as determined by your eye doctor
  • Your vision is not stable as determined by your eye doctor
Before considering EVO Visian ICL surgery you should have a complete eye examination and talk with your eye care professional about EVO Visian ICL surgery, especially the potential benefits, risks, and complications. You should discuss the time needed for healing after surgery. For additional information with potential benefits, risks and complications please visit
